The project was a campus layout and then a shared space is a library. We decided to do a library for this school doesn't have one and we believed it would be a great thing to have. The library would have two floors. The first floor would have the books and an area for people who want a quiet place to learn or study and then downstairs would be where people could work together on projects and collaborate, there is also tutor rooms for those who need a quiet one on one place to work. There is also computes for people, who don’t have a computer to work on and can’t afford one to work on. We have stairs and then an elevator for those who aren’t capable of going down the stairs. Then for the campus layout we had decided to make it three buildings because people have requested that they like going from building to building to get to classes, they enjoyed getting to have a moment to be outside. Which one of the reasons, why we also decided to put a gazebo into the campus area. We had also decided to have the parking lots all be close to the school because people had voiced that it wasn’t fair that the teachers were the only ones close to the school. Our plan was to create an environment and space that fitted what parents, teachers, and even students wanted for the new building or wanted to keep.
What I had learned from constructing a budget is that nothing can be off by a little bit or it would mess up the whole thing. As well as making sure the math is correct and going back through it to make sure there is no issues during the process of making it. And, then looking to see if there's something cheap as to try and make sure not to go over the budget but also to make sure the products are functional as well. Overall, I enjoyed the process of making the budget because I work better with spreadsheets then measuring the building and making sure it’s the right size.
The most difficulty i’ve had through this process is communication with a partner of mine in the group and trying to get him to do his work and understand what is happening. The things, I would have changed in this project is the planning of it, figuring out a solution to problems that occurred other than ignoring it until the end, but other then that I liked what happened and how our final product ended up. I feel i’ve grown up as a collaborator because I have began to discuss things with group members and give my opinion and idea on the project, instead of remaining silent and doing what they wanted on the project.
Yes, I believe it’s important for a student to have a voice in what their facilities and school likes. It's also their place and not just the teachers and faculty area to work and even at times learn from. A space, that works for all parties I believe is a more comfortable environment. That’s why I believe students should have a voice in what their facilities and school looks like.
